Judge Darren Howarth accepted a joint submission from both the Crown and defence, handing Daigneault his sentence at Saskatoon Provincial Court on Tuesday.
With time already served, Daigneault has around four years left on his sentence, which according to court documents also includes a four-year driving prohibition after his release, a firearm prohibition and $25,000 in restitution.
Police said just before 8 a.m. on July 9, 2025, a report was received that a F550 was doing sewer work near Wiggins Avenue South and Cascade Street when a man stole the vehicle.
The officer said they found the vehicle but said the man refused to stop.
Police said while the chase continued, the driver attempted – and in two cases – successfully hit police vehicles.
“During the incident, two members discharged their service-issued firearm,” officers said at the time.
The police service then said Daigneault took the southbound exit off Circle Drive onto the Valley Road off ramp and was intentionally struck by a police vehicle and toppled over.
Police said in a release at the time that the man was freed from the vehicle and “was not compliant with officers.” It was also noted Daigneault was taken to the hospital for “injuries consistent with a dog bite.”
After an investigation, police said Daigneault was also involved in another incident before the chase that morning involving a taxi driver’s car being stolen and a crash into a convenience store in the 1500 block of 22nd Street.
