Both of Saskatchewan’s rinks remain in playoff contention at the 2026 Montana’s Brier, each picking up much needed victories on Tuesday.
Regina’s Kelly Knapp rink made the most of their lone game on the schedule Tuesday, racing out to an early 5-0 lead against the Derek Samagalski rink from Nunavut.

Knapp, third Brennen Jones, second Dustin Kidby and lead Mat Ring needed just eight ends to dispatch Team Samagalski with two points in the seventh end and a steal of one in the eight to earn an 8-2 win.
The team from the Highland Curling Club is still in the hunt for a playoff spot past the midway mark of their round-robin, tied for sixth in Pool A with a 2-3 record.
Snapping a two-game slide in the process, Team Knapp will play twice on Wednesday with games against the Nathan Young and Brad Gushue rinks out of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Mike McEwen’s hot streak at the Brier continued on Tuesday meanwhile, as his Saskatchewan rink came out firing for their third and fourth straight wins in St. John’s, N.L.
Taking on the James Grattan rink out of New Brunswick in their first game of the day on Tuesday morning, Team McEwen stole points in the second and third ends to take a commanding 7-0 lead early.
After exchanging singles, New Brunswick cut their deficit to 8-3 in the sixth end with a score of two with hammer.
Team McEwen put the game away one end later however, scoring two of their own in the seventh end to force handshakes following a Grattan single in the eighth.
They’d follow that up with a win by the skin of their teeth in an extra end 11-10 over British Columbia’s Cody Tanaka rink in the nightcap.
In a wild game which included five lead changes, McEwen gave up a steal of one in the 10th end to Tanaka to see the game head to a deciding 11th end.
Holding hammer, McEwen was able to execute a perfect run-back to the button to secure the win over Team British Columbia
The team out of Saskatoon’s Nutana Curling Club of McEwen, third Colton Flasch, second Kevin Marsh and lead Daniel Marsh now holds a 5-1 record on the week and are second in Pool B.
They’ll be back on the ice for one game on Wednesday at 12 p.m. against the Braden Calvert rink from Manitoba.
Both Team McEwen and Team Knapp are aiming to qualify for playoffs later this week in the hopes of ending Saskatchewan’s 46-year championship drought at the Brier.
