He’s facing charges of escaping lawful custody and being unlawfully at large, and the RCMP said officers are working to track him down.
Police asked the public to report any sightings of Hunt, who was described as 5’9” in height, weighing 165 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. When he was last seen, police said he was wearing brown Carhartt pants and a “black/brown winter coat.” He’s known to travel to the Prince Albert and La Ronge areas, the RCMP added.
“If you see Thomas Hunt, do not approach him,” the RCMP said in a statement.
Hunt escaped from the same correctional camp on at least one previous occasion. In 2019, the RCMP issued a statement asking the public to be on the lookout for Hunt after he escaped custody.
The Besnard Lake Correctional Camp is located west of La Ronge. Documents published by the Government of Saskatchewan say the facility “is intended for inmates who do not present an undue risk to public safety if supervised in a reduced custody facility/unit and for whom program participation will address an identified criminogenic need and contribute to the inmate’s successful reintegration into the community.”

Meanwhile, police continue to hunt for 30-year-old Keiston Custer, who the Correctional Service of Canada said “absconded from lawful custody when being transported by staff from Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan” on Friday.
The correctional service said it has contacted the Prince Albert police and RCMP, and a warrant has been issued for Custer’s arrest.
He was described as 5’10” in height, weighing 181 pounds, with a medium complexion, black hair and brown eyes.
Custer, who is originally from Sturgeon lake First Nation, received a 12-year prison sentence for manslaughter in January of 2023.
He was charged in connection to the death of Norman Charles Custer, who was shot in the back in May of 2021 in the 900 block of 17th Street West in Prince Albert. Custer was initially charged with second degree murder, but entered a guilty plea to the lesser offence.
Custer was also one of five men charged after a prison riot in January of 2021 at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre, which resulted in roughly $500,000 in damages.
