Regina-born snowboarder Mark McMorris says he won’t be competing in the big air event in Italy on Thursday night after suffering an injury on Wednesday.
McMorris, a three-time Olympic bronze medal winner, crashed during a training session on Wednesday and was seen being removed from the course on a stretcher. He shared an update in a video posted to social media on Thursday morning.

“I took a fall last night. I hit my head and I will not be able to compete in big air tonight, unfortunately,” McMorris said in the video.

“But, fortunately, things are looking up for slopestyle, so just trying to stay positive and shift my focus to that event.”
The 32-year-old snowboarder, who recently won gold at the 2026 X Games in Aspen, offered his gratitude to the staff who cared for him after the crash, as well as those who sent messages wishing him well.
“A massive thank-you to the medical staff that took awesome care of me and thank you all for reaching out, all the love and support,” he said.
“I haven’t been on my phone much, but the messages do not go unnoticed, so thank you. I will keep you updated, and much love.”
