“Investigation determined a male victim was in a parked vehicle outside a residence on 4th Avenue North in Yorkton. Two males wearing face coverings approached the victim, forced him out of the vehicle, placed him in a separate SUV, and drove away,” the RCMP explained in a statement.
“The males threatened the victim and pointed a firearm at him. The firearm was not discharged.”
According to the Mounties, officers quickly spotted a vehicle matching the description of the SUV heading in the direction of Melville on Highway 10. Police said the driver made an attempt to flee when the officers attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle ended up in a ditch.
“The vehicle occupants were arrested at the scene. The victim, who was one of the vehicle occupants, reported non-life-threatening injuries to police,” the RCMP said.
“Investigation determined the suspects and victim were known to one another.”
Inside the vehicle, police said the officers found a loaded gun, ammunition, about 88 grams of cocaine, about the same amount of methamphetamine and roughly 16 grams of fentanyl.
The two alleged kidnappers, ages 24 and 20, are both facing charges of kidnapping with a firearm, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm and ammunition in a motor vehicle, possession of a prohibited weapon knowing it is unauthorized, and several drug charges. The 24-year-old was also charged with assault, uttering threats, pointing a firearm and wearing a disguise with intent, while the 20-year-old was also charged with flight from a peace officer and dangerous driving.
Both men appeared in court in Yorkton on Thursday, the RCMP said.
