Terrebonne could hold the key to Liberal majority, if Carney plays cards right

A new agency will be in charge of animal welfare in Saskatchewan this spring.
Starting on April 1, the Saskatchewan Animal Enforcement Agency (SAEA) will take over from Animal Protection Services of Saskatchewan, following a public competition for a new service provider held by the provincial agriculture ministry.

According to the Government of Saskatchewan, the new agency was successful in the competition and provided long-term operational plans to meet the ministry’s requirements. The new agency will operate across the province with the exception of Regina, where services are provided by the Regina Humane Society.
“Our government’s new partnership with the Saskatchewan Animal Enforcement Agency continues to ensure animal welfare enforcement in our province,” Agriculture Minister David Marit said in a statement.
“Together, we are looking to the future of animal protection that continues to deliver effective and compassionate enforcement for Saskatchewan residents and their animals.”
Russ Austin, board chair for the Saskatchewan Animal Enforcement Agency, said he’s looking forward to working with the ministry and other stakeholders across the province.
“The SAEA was created with the focus of delivering education and enforcement services with integrity, professionalism and transparency in all that we do,” he noted.
Additionally, the ministry noted that Saskatchewan’s animal protection laws were recently updated, following a period of public consultations.
“These amendments will strengthen the protection of animals by creating a new animal welfare inspector position and establishing a code of conduct for animal protection officers, as well as other enforcement enhancements,” the ministry explained.
