Three overdose deaths in two days in Regina have prompted an alert from the Saskatchewan health ministry.
According to the ministry, the deaths occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday, the final days of 2025. Coroners suspect the deaths were caused by overdoses of toxic drugs, and the ministry said the fatalities indicate “a higher risk of overdose and death from drugs in the Regina area.”

No information on the substance behind the overdoses was available, the ministry said. The drugs may appear as long, crystalline rocks and may contain methamphetamine and other unknown substances, and no information was available on how the drugs were being sold.
“Please note that naloxone will counter the effects of opioids, but not other substances like benzodiazepines,” the ministry said in a statement. “Multiple doses of naloxone may be required.”
The alert will remain in effect until next Friday, the ministry added.
But while 2025 has seen numerous overdose deaths and drug alerts issued by the ministry, overdose deaths in the province reached a five-year low.
While numbers are not yet finalized, as of the beginning of December the province had seen 304 suspected and confirmed overdose fatalities in 2025, down from the 345 deaths that occurred in 2024.
The most common source of overdose was parafluorofentanyl, a synthetic opioid, which killed 74 people, while methylfentanyl killed another 40. Both drugs are also called China White.
Carfentanyl killed 46 people and 44 people died after ingesting fentanyl.
