The Meewasin Skating Rink in Kiwanis Memorial Park opened to the public on Monday.
According to Meewasin, the rink, which is considered a staple of the holiday season in downtown Saskatoon, remains free thanks to support from sponsors like Nutrien, Cameco and DTNYXE, though donations are welcomed.

The rink will also host Sip & Skate events, offering visitors 19 and older exclusive access to the rink along with beverages and snacks. The first Sip & Skate of the season will be held in January.
“Nothing brings the warmth to winter in Saskatoon quite like ice skates and hot chocolate, so we are delighted to welcome the community back to the rink,” Mike Velonas, Meewasin’s CEO, said in a statement.
“Whether you’re learning to skate for the first time, executing a perfect triple toe loop, or just joining us for an event like Sip & Skate, we look forward to sharing the ice with you!”
The rink is open for skating from noon to 8 p.m. from Wednesday to Sunday, and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
“Skaters are reminded that the rink is an outdoor facility and subject to Saskatchewan weather,” Meewasin noted. “Unscheduled closures may occur during extreme cold (wind chills of -31 C or lower) or heavy snowfall.”
While the rink opened to the public on Monday, a grand opening event featuring the ceremonial lighting of the plaza has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Daily updates on ice conditions and the rink’s status can be found on Meewasin’s website.
