A 27-year-old Vancouver man is facing drug trafficking charges after a search of his vehicle near Kindersley allegedly turned up 20 kilograms of illegal drugs.
A traffic officer pulled over a vehicle on Highway 7, west of Kindersley “for a driver’s licence, registration and sobriety check,” the Saskatchewan RCMP said in a statement, and subsequently detained the driver for a “drug investigation.” A police dog was called in, and the RCMP said the dog detected the smell of narcotics coming from the rear part of the vehicle.

The driver was arrested, and the RCMP said a search revealed an after-market compartment on the vehicle, which contained four kilograms of “suspected cocaine.”
A further search of the vehicle revealed 15 more kilograms of suspected cocaine and a kilogram of suspected crystal methamphetamine, police noted.
The driver is now facing two charges of drug trafficking and two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. He was released from custody ahead of a court date in Kindersley in December, the RCMP said.
Lee Knelsen, an inspector with the Saskatchewan RCMP, said the seizure means the drugs will not make their way to the streets.
“It’s also a significant amount of money that will not be supporting the activities of criminals in Saskatchewan,” Knelsen said in a statement.
“I commend our traffic officers for their vigilance while patrolling our roads and working closely with our local RCMP detachments to help keep Saskatchewan safe.”
