A 28-year-old man from Leask is facing charges after allegedly crashing into an RCMP vehicle while fleeing from police earlier this month, ahead of a brief crime spree.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday afternoon by the Saskatchewan RCMP, the alleged incident happened back on Oct. 15, on the Mistawasis Nêhiyawak First Nation. Police said officers were called to the First Nation at around 11 a.m. for a report about a suspicious camper trailer.

“When officers approached, a vehicle parked by the trailer began driving around the area erratically, evading officers’ attempts to perform a traffic stop – at one point colliding with a police vehicle. No officers were injured,” the Mounties explained in a statement.
“Officers determined the camper was stolen, and located and seized three rifles, a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition from it.”
The RCMP said officers tried to stop the vehicle with a tire-deflation device, but were unsuccessful.
Police said the officers later got a report about a carjacking in the R.M. of Leask, saying an adult man had been assaulted and his truck had been stolen by the same people who had previously struck the police vehicle. The victim was hurt in the alleged robbery, police said, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The Mounties said officers used another tire-deflation device to stop the stolen truck, and the two occupants – a man and a woman – were arrested after a foot chase through a field.
The 28-year-old Leask man is now facing a list of 23 charges, including assaulting a police officer, theft of a motor vehicle, robbery, resisting arrest and possession of a prohibited firearm. He appeared in court in Prince Albert back on Oct. 17, the RCMP said.
The 25-year-old woman, a resident of Blaine Lake, has also been charged, but the RCMP said it could not yet provide those details.
