An Alberta man says he plans to pay off his mortgage, improve his home and spend a lot more time with his family after winning nearly $1.2 million on a VTL jackpot in Estevan.
According to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation, Cody Turcotte, a resident of Dunmore, Alta., was awarded $1,190,525.67 after winning a grand jackpot on a VLT machine at the Tower Restaurant in Estevan last Tuesday.

Turcotte said he was left speechless when he saw the screen on the machine, showing that he’d won more than $1.1 million.
“I was just shocked,” Turcotte said in a statement. “The guy behind me had to tell me how much I’d won!”
He said he plans to pay off the mortgage on his acreage, then build a shop on the property.
“This will help get me home and (with) my family all the time instead of working on the road,” he said.
Turcotte won the Vault Breaker jackpot, a progressive jackpot that links 4,200 VLTs and more than 560 sites around the province. The Western Canada Lottery Corporation said Vault Breaker has paid out more than $56 million to 56 winners since June of 2017.
