Fall street sweeping begins Tuesday
The city’s fall street sweeping program kicks off on Tuesday, as the city clears leaves from the streets in an effort to prevent spring flooding.
“Leaves that accumulate along streets can clog storm drains and catch basins, creating a risk of flooding when the snow melts,” Cam LeClarire, Saskatoon’s roadways manager, said in a statement.
“By sweeping the leafiest streets before winter, we help protect City infrastructure and keep neighbourhoods safer and cleaner for everyone.”
The city said the street sweeping program will begin in the neighbourhoods with the densest tree coverage. A schedule can be found on the city’s website.
Residents were encouraged to prepare for the arrival of the street sweepers by clearing leaves from sidewalks and boulevards, “but avoid piling them in the street as large leaf piles slow down the sweepers.”
Temporary “No Parking” signs will go up in areas where sweeping is planned, and the city noted that some vehicles may be towed if they are obstructing the work.
