Man charged after allegedly trying to bear spray Saskatoon cops
A 33-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly trying to spray police officers in Saskatoon with bear spray during a traffic stop on Sunday.
According to police, officers pulled over a “suspicious vehicle” on 20th Street West at around 10:10 a.m., and spotted open alcohol and unstamped tobacco products inside.
“Four passengers of the vehicle were subsequently arrested under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act. Officers believed the driver of the vehicle provided a false name,” police said in a statement.
“A search of the vehicle resulted in police locating ammunition and a loaded improvised firearm. As officers began to arrest one of the men for the weapons offence, the man attempted to deploy bear spray at officers. No police officers were injured as a result of this incident.”
Police said the 29-year-old driver was charged with obstructing a peace officer, while a 33-year-old passenger has been charged with resisting arrest, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and breaching court-imposed conditions.
Both men were scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Tuesday, police said.
