According to Brian Pfefferle, Knopf’s lawyer, release conditions are expected to require him to return to Saskatchewan to address the charges.
Knopf sustained serious injuries in the collision on Friday and has been in the hospital, his lawyer said on Monday.
Pfefferle said there is currently no indication that alcohol, drugs or excessive speed were factors in the crash, but he noted that he has yet to receive the full details of the allegations against Knopf, who was in Saskatchewan on a hunting trip.
According to the RCMP, officers were called to the scene at around 12:35 p.m. on Friday.
Investigators determined a truck was attempting to pass a semi when it collided with the family’s SUV.
The girls’ father, Shaun Didychuk, who was also in the SUV, survived the crash with serious injuries.
Three people travelling in the truck were also injured. The RCMP said the driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries. One passenger was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while another was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
A GoFundMe page has been raising funds to help Didychuk with medical expenses, bills and the funeral and memorial costs for his wife, Amber, and their two young daughters, Everly and Isla, who were killed in the crash.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, the RCMP said.
