VICTORIA — B.C. Premier David Eby says he will deliver an address later today amid expectations of a snap election call.
The premier has called reporters to Government House, where it’s expected he’ll ask Lt.-Gov. Wendy Cocchia to dissolve the legislature and set off an election campaign less than two years into his mandate.
It comes after the Opposition British Columbia Conservatives scrapped an appearance by new interim leader Lorne Doerkson, citing a possible election.
Eby said last week that his caucus needed to be “election ready.”
Since then, the NDP has made a series of campaign-style announcements, including a temporary pause of the expansion of the provincial sales tax and an order that BC Ferries’ next round of vessels be built in British Columbia.
The expected election call comes after weeks of upheaval in the Conservative ranks, with Kerry-Lynne Findlay resigning as leader on Sunday and being replaced by Doerkson.
