REGINA — Saskatchewan’s community safety minister says he’s told the province’s marshals policing service to pause the development of a specialized tactical unit.
Michael Weger says the force also won’t be purchasing high-tech weaponry.
Last month, the marshals had put out a bid request seeking sniper rifles, sound cannons and a thermal camera.
The marshals have said none of the equipment was purchased.
It has also said the unit was a foundational component of the marshals since its first officers started working last year.
Weger says the marshals need to focus on working alongside RCMP and other policing agencies.
