Drivers in Saskatoon may need to take a detour or two over the coming days as the city kicks off a number of road improvement projects.
On Saturday, Meadows Parkway will be closed to southbound traffic from Zimmerman Road to Market Drive for paving work. That closure is expected to run from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

On Sunday, Cumberland Avenue will be closed north and south of Eighth Street for signal maintenance, with the closure expected to run from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the northbound Circle Drive ramp to westbound Attridge Drive will be closed from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. while workers replace streetlights.
On Monday, Fifth Avenue North will be closed between 24th and 25th streets from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to accommodate a crane lift.
Monday will also see the intersection of Lorne Avenue and Willow Street East closed between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. for sewer work.
Also on Monday, Market Drive will be closed between Meadows Parkway and the entrance to Costco for paving work.
“Closure end times are weather permitting and barring any unforeseen circumstances,” the City of Saskatoon noted.
Transit station construction on Preston Avenue kicks off on Monday
On Monday, construction of two new Link bus stations will begin on Preston Avenue on the south side of Field House Road.
“Work will occur simultaneously on both sides of Preston Avenue and traffic lights may flash for short periods of time at the intersection,” the city said in a statement.
“One lane will be open to general traffic in both northbound and southbound lanes during this work. Field House Road to Merlis Belsher Place and the Field House will remain open, but restrictions may occur due to traffic signal work.”
Detour signs will be in place to guide drivers around the work, the city added.
Melville Street closure starts next week
The City of Saskatoon said Melville Street will be closed at the Jasper Avenue South intersection for about two-and-a-half months, starting the week of Aug. 10.
“New sanitary sewer infrastructure is being installed as part of a larger effort to improve the system’s capacity and support future development in the area,” the city said in a statement.
“During construction, traffic restrictions will be in place and motorists should expect delays. Signage will be in place to guide motorists, pedestrians and cyclists safely through the area.”
