Driver charged after crashing through patio into business on McOrmond Drive: Police

Police in Saskatoon say a 44-year-old man is facing charges after smashing through a patio and crashing into a business on McOrmond Drive Sunday night.

According to police, officers were called to the business at about 8:35 p.m. When they arrived, police said the officers saw the vehicle sitting inside the patio.

“No one on the patio was physically injured as a result of the collision,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.

“Officers approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver and observed signs of impairment, including an empty bottle of alcohol inside the vehicle.”

Police said the driver was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening, and failed to comply with demands for impairment testing.

As a result, police said he was charged with refusing to comply with a breath demand.

Woman facing charges after allegedly driving on wrong side of highway

A 26-year-old woman is facing charges after allegedly driving in the wrong direction on a Saskatchewan highway on Monday.

According to police, officers were called to the area of Highway 5 and Highway 41, just east of the city, at around 2 p.m. after getting a report of a vehicle travelling on the wrong side of the road.

“As officers were responding, further updates came in stating the vehicle was at College Drive and Central Avenue,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.

“Police were able to locate the vehicle driving westbound on College Drive and initiated a traffic stop.”

Police said the woman was arrested, but provided false information on her identity to officers. The police force said she was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants and the vehicle she was driving had been reported stolen.

The woman is now facing charges of obstruction, fraudulent impersonation, dangerous driving and failure to comply with court-imposed conditions.

Theft call leads to police pursuit on Saturday

A call about a person stealing from a business on Preston Avenue on Saturday morning ended with a police chase and two arrests.

Police said officers were called to the business at around 9:30 a.m., and a caller reported that the alleged thief was sitting a vehicle in the parking lot.

“Upon police arrival, officers located the vehicle as it was beginning to leave. Officers activated their emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, however, the driver did not stop,” the Saskatoon Police Service said.

“The suspect vehicle then hit a vehicle before fleeing at a high rate of speed southbound on Preston Avenue.”

Police said officers stopped chasing the vehicle, but later found it unoccupied and running.

“Police located and arrested two suspects shortly after. It was also learned that the vehicle had been reported as stolen,” the police force said.

“As a result, a 30-year-old woman and a 38-year-old woman have been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 and Theft. The 30-year-old has also been charged with Dangerous Driving, Evading Police and Failure to Stop at the Scene of a Collision.”
