A man being held in custody in the Turtleford RCMP detachment died after experiencing a medical emergency on Wednesday afternoon.
The man had been arrested without incident on a warrant earlier in the day by Turtleford RCMP officers at a home on Thunderchild First Nation, about 100 kilometres northeast of North Battleford, the Mounties said in a statement.

The RCMP said the man was taken to cells at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. He began experiencing medical distress at 3 p.m.
According to the RCMP, officers and medical personnel provided assistance to the man, but he was pronounced dead at the detachment. His family has been notified.
The death will be investigated by the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team, which investigates incidents in which someone is seriously injured or dies while in police custody, or as a result of a police officer’s actions.
The team is a civilian-led agency, responsible for investigating serious incidents involving law enforcement officers in Saskatchewan. It also investigates allegations of sexual assault or interpersonal violence involving police officers.
