Man, woman face charges in dangerous driving incident involving RPS, RCMP

Regina police officers said a man and a woman are facing charges from two different police bodies in Saskatchewan after a dangerous driving incident on Thursday.

The Regina Police Service became involved around 3 a.m., when officers responded to a report of a dangerous driver near Highway 11 and Ninth Avenue North.

Police reported that the vehicle had already been stopped by the RCMP.

“During that interaction, the male was driving the vehicle and exited it while officers conducted their investigation before subsequently fleeing the scene,” Regina police reported

“When the vehicle entered the Regina Police Service’s jurisdiction, the female was driving.”

Using its aerial support unit, Regina police found the vehicle and “maintained observation” while officers successfully used a tire deflation device on the vehicle, which travelled a bit further before stopping.

Police said the female driving and the male passenger then exited the vehicle and ran away on foot. The man was taken into custody with the help of a police dog with “minor injuries consistent with a dog bite.”

The female was also arrested. The man has been charged through the RCMP in relation to the initial traffic stop, while Regina police have charged the woman, 26, with flight from a police officer.

The woman will appear for the first time in Regina Provincial Court on Sept. 15.
