Saskatoon police briefs: Three charged after allegedly stealing scooter from teen

Three people are facing robbery charges after allegedly stealing a scooter from a 13-year-old child.

According to the Saskatoon Police Service, officers were called to Primrose Drive, in the city’s Lawson Heights neighbourhood, just after 8 p.m. on Saturday after getting a report of the alleged robbery.

“Arriving officers located three people matching the suspect descriptions with the scooter,” the police force said in a statement.

“All three were arrested shortly after without further incident and the scooter was returned to the victim.”

Police said the three suspects, an 18-year-old man, a 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl, are each facing a charge of robbery, while the male suspect was also charged with breaching court-imposed conditions.

Man charged with dangerous driving

Police said a 26-year-old man is facing charges of dangerous driving and evading police after an incident on Sunday morning.

According to police, officers saw a suspicious vehicle driving slowly without lights in the area of Avenue P North and 23rd Street West, in the city’s Mt. Royal neighbourhood, at around 1:30 a.m. Police said the vehicle had “significant damage to the front end,” and the driver took off at high speed before police could attempt a traffic stop.

“Police followed the vehicle until the area of 31st Street West and Avenue G North where the driver exited the vehicle while it was still moving and ran away,” police said in a statement. “Members of the SPS Canine Unit were able to track and locate the suspect where he was arrested. The suspect was treated on scene by paramedics for injuries consistent with a dog bite.”

Cops respond to three separate stabbings

Police in Saskatoon responded to three separate stabbings over the weekend, the first of which saw officers called to a business on Confederation Drive at around 4:30 p.m. on Friday for a report that a woman had been stabbed.

“Responding officers located the 36-year-old woman a short distance away being treated by members of the Saskatoon Fire Department. She was transported to hospital by paramedics for what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries,” the police force said in a statement.

“Through initial investigation, police were not able to determine the location of the stabbing.”

The second incident saw officers patrolling downtown flagged down by a woman on 20th Street West shortly before 12:30 a.m. on Saturday. The woman reported that she had been stabbed, police said.

“Through initial investigation, officers learned the woman was assaulted by two females in the 500 block of 20th Street West,” the police force said.

“The 29-year-old woman was transported to hospital by paramedics for further medical treatment.”

The third stabbing saw police called to Avenue W North after getting a report that a woman had been stabbed at an apartment building.

Arriving officers found and arrested the suspect, police said, and the woman was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. Police added that the suspect and victim were known to each other.

The 26-year-old suspect has been charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats and breaching court-ordered conditions, police added.
