Higher-than-normal volumes of material in recycling bins have City of Saskatoon officials wondering if recycling depots are being misused.
In a release, the city reminded businesses and organizations that its recycling depots are intended for residents only.

Businesses are required to divert recyclable materials from their waste stream and make use of resources that aren’t residential bins to process them.
According to the city, 68 per cent of waste in Saskatoon is generated by businesses and organizations.
The city also said there are steps residents can take to ensure bins don’t overflow. They are encouraged to only drop off accepted materials at depots and flatten all cardboard products.
Leaving materials outside of bins is considered illegal dumping by the city. Residents should visit another depot, or return at another time if depots are full.
