Saskatchewan’s Cole Reschny has moved one step closer towards making his return to Team Canada at the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship.
On Friday, Reschny was named to Hockey Canada’s World Junior Summer Showcase roster. He’ll head to Windsor, Ont. next week to skate with other Team Canada hopefuls.

The Macklin, Sask. athlete made his World Junior debut last winter at the 2026 event in Minnesota, where he finished tied for ninth in the tournament in goals with four, adding one assist in seven games to help Canada capture a bronze medal.
A first round draft pick of the Calgary Flames in 2025, Reschny is coming off his freshman NCAA season at the University of North Dakota, where he tied for second in team scoring with six goals and 35 points in 36 games.

Prior to that, Reschny played two Western Hockey League seasons with the Victoria Royals, where he netted 58 goals and 179 points in 142 career regular season and playoff games.
The former Saskatoon U18 AAA Blazers star was the lone Saskatchewan-born player named to Canada’s Summer Showcase roster.
Two Raiders also invited to camp
Two members of the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders have been invited to attend next week’s camp — forward Braeden Cootes and defenceman Daxon Rudolph.
Cootes is also eligible to return for his second World Junior tournament, after he netted two goals in seven games last winter for Team Canada.
Traded to the Raiders from the Seattle Thunderbirds at last season’s WHL trade deadline, the Vancouver Canucks prospect registered 40 points in 28 regular season games. He then added another 23 points in Prince Albert’s run to the WHL championship series.
As for Rudolph, he will be looking to crack Canada’s World Junior roster after he exploded for 28 goals and 78 points in 68 regular season games for the Raiders, before tying for the WHL playoff scoring lead with 27 points in 19 games.
Drafted fourth overall by the Buffalo Sabres last month, Rudolph will be headed to the NCAA next season at the University of Denver.
Team Canada will hold practices in Windsor on Monday and Tuesday next week, before their first exhibition game against Sweden on Wednesday.
The 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship will be held from Dec. 26, 2026 to Jan. 5, 2027 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alta.
