Three-month closure of Wanuskewin Road to begin next week: City of Saskatoon

Commuters who make use of Wanuskewin Road in Saskatoon should prepare for some detours and potential delays over the coming months.

The road will be closed for about three months starting next week as city workers complete open-cut pipe installation work as part of Saskatoon’s biosolids pipeline corridor project, the replacement of two underground pipelines connecting the city’s Wastwater Treatment Plant to a city-operated biosilids facility in the RM of Corman Park.

“During this phase of work, Wanuskewin Road will be closed in both directions at 72nd Street, and there will be no access through the work zone. Drivers travelling between Saskatoon and Highway 11 will not be able to use Wanuskewin Road and will be detoured via Louis Riel Trail (Highway 11) and Idylwyld Drive,” the City of Saskatoon said in a statement.

“Northbound traffic on Wanuskewin Road will be detoured at Marquis Drive, while southbound traffic from Highway 11 will be required to use alternate routes to access the city.”

The city said access to the new development area, which includes Kohut Avenue, Eidem Link and Shoquist Avenue will still be availble from the south using Wanuskewin Road up to the closure at 72nd Street.

“Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and follow all posted detour signage while this important infrastructure work is completed,” the city added.

“We thank residents and commuters for their patience.”
