“Officers arrived in the 3800 block of Kochar Avenue and located two people inside a vehicle, a 35-year-old woman and 28-year-old man. The man was transported to hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.
According to police, investigators determined that the victims met up with a pair of people on Marlatte Crescent intending to sell them a phone.
“A male and female suspect entered the vehicle and a short time later, a third male approached the drivers side window with a firearm,” police said.
“When the driver began to pull forward, the male in the back seat stabbed the man in the front seat. The male and female suspect then got out of the vehicle before the third male approached with a firearm and reportedly fired it before all three suspects fled the scene in a vehicle.”
The police force said the case is under investigation by officers with its serious assault unit. Anyone with information that could help the investigation was encouraged to contact police or make a report anonymously though Crime Stoppers.
Back in 2021, the police force established a “safe zone” for buy-and-sell meetups in the police station’s visitor parking lot.
“By implementing a Buy and Sell Exchange Zone, the Saskatoon Police Service saw an opportunity to improve community safety and provide a dedicated space to conduct legal buy and sell transactions,” Staff Sgt. Matt Bradford said in a statement issued at the time.
“Our goal is to prevent buy and sell frauds and reduce the number of citizens being victimized by this kind of fraudulent activity.”
