The Town of White City is finding some humour in a photo of one of it’s road construction projects that has gone viral.
“NEW PUMP TRACK UPDATE” the town said in a social media post, followed by “Just kidding. This is still Betteridge Road.”

The photo appeared to depict severe hills and dips in a new layer of pavement. Pictures posted by the town show the work underway.
A “pump track” is a track for wheeled sports equipment that has rollers, jumps and berms, named for its design allowing riders to use their body to “pump” rather than pedal through the course and its obstacles.
The town said Betteridge Road is being built according to a design approved in 2019 with an “urban road profile” that is meant to eventually include sidewalks, on-street parking and pedestrian features.
“The rises and dips (or undulations) will help direct stormwater to catch basins, reducing the risk of water pooling on the roadway and nearby properties,” the town explained in the post.
“As future phases of the Betteridge Road Paving Project are completed and development occurs along the corridor, the roadway will look and function very different from what you’re seeing today,” it stated. “This is a long-term investment aligned with planned growth.”
The engineering firm, Stantec, is scheduled to provide an update on the project at a committee of the whole meeting on Monday evening.
Betteridge Road is designed to be a main east-west road as part of the plan for Town Centre, a mixed-use neighbourhood set to include housing, services, shops, offices, and recreation.

According to a memo presented to town council earlier this year, the road is expected to eventually be a four-lane connector between the Pilot Butte overpass and Highway 48.
