While Gerald Hammerling was driving from Moose Jaw to Regina when he saw the flames.
“I saw a number of lines of grass burning,” he described. “Large swaths of areas that had already burned, possibly some structures, a lot of thick smoke.”
Hammerling said he had to slow down to 20 kilometres an hour while on the highway because visibility was so poor.
It’s concerning to see grass fires this early, he said.
The fire department is still investigating the cause of the flames.
