One of the top prospects for the Saskatchewan Roughriders has decided to move on from professional football before his career really began.
On Thursday, the CFL club announced that University of Saskatchewan linebacker Seth Hundeby alerted them that he would be retiring from professional football.
The Riders said Hundeby is choosing to pursue an opportunity outside of football. He was studying engineering at the U of S.

Hundeby was the Riders’ fourth round – 34th overall – pick of the 2025 CFL Draft. He attended training camp last year along with Huskies teammate, wide receiver Daniel Wiebe.
The Saskatoon product had signed a contract with the Riders after a stellar 2025 season with the Huskies. He appeared in seven regular season games recording 42 defensive tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles and two interceptions.
He was named the 2025 Presidents’ Trophy winner as the Most Outstanding Defensive Player in the country.
In total, Hundeby played 53 games as a Huskie over six seasons. He tallied 229 total tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 18 sacks, two interceptions, seven pass deflections and six forced fumbles.
He was expected to battle for a spot in the Riders’ roster at this year’s training camp in Saskatoon.
