Police said their investigation found a man driving a truck saw two men walking on the side of Highway 4 and offered them a ride. The two passengers then pointed a firearm at the driver, threatened him, and drove off in the truck southbound, police said.
The driver was able to get out of the truck before the suspects drove off, and police said the firearm was discharged, but no injuries were reported.
Battlefords RCMP found the truck still driving on Highway 4, and attempted a traffic stop but the truck did not stop. Police then set up a tire deflation device and said the men abandoned the truck on Red Pheasant Cree Nation and ran off.
A Battlefords RCMP police dog helped officers find and arrest the two men shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Red Pheasant Cree Nation, and police said they recovered a shotgun from the scene.
