Anyone heading out for some fishing this spring should ensure their angling licence is up to date.
The Saskatchewan Ministry of the Environment reminded anglers that licences expire on March 31. Licences can be purchased through the provincial Hunting, Angling and Trapping Licence system, at issuers around the province, at Government of Saskatchewan field offices and certain provincial park offices, or by phone.

This year, anglers will be required to purchase a habitat certificate along with their licence in order to help protect and improve Saskatchewan’s fisheries.
“Annual angling licences will require a $20 Angling Habitat Certificate, while one- and three-day licences will require a $5 certificate,” the ministry explained in a statement.
“Hunters already purchase a Wildlife Habitat Certificate, and this change aligns angling licences with the existing conservation funding model.”
Anyone who buys both a hunting and angling licence in the same year will only need to purchase on certificate, the ministry noted.
“The extension of the Habitat Certificate to angling licences will provide funding for key fisheries priorities, with all revenue deposited into the Fish and Wildlife Development Fund,” the ministry said.
“This funding will help with the modernization and expansion of the Saskatchewan Fish Hatchery, which is responsible for stocking all the province’s public water bodies with fish. It will also support Aquatic Invasive Species prevention programming.”
Residents under 16 or over 65 (as of April 1) do not need to purchase an angling licence. Veterans are also except from the licence requirement.
More information on Saskatchewan’s fishing licence requirements can be found on the provincial government’s website.
