One lane of Saskatoon’s University Bridge will be closed after the morning rush hour on Wednesday.
The City of Saskatoon said in a news release on Tuesday afternoon that the westbound curb lane closure was expected to be short with all vehicle lanes predicted to be reopened by early afternoon.
The closure is needed as city crews will be working to remove a temporary bypass pipe installed on the north walkway after repairs to a sewer pipe were needed following a small fire under the archway on the Spadina Crescent side of the structure last week.
The city said on Tuesday that normal operation of the wastewater system had resumed.
The city said previously the fire, which melted a sanitary sewer line under the bridge but caused no structural damage, was human-caused.
The Saskatoon Emergency Management Organization is conducting an after-action review of the incident to consider and assess possible options for reducing further trespassing under bridges over the water in the city.
