An annual event supporting the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre is back for another year.
Rock 102’s Stuff the Bus runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 16 at the Saskatoon Co-op Food Store on Eighth Street East. Food and cash donations will be accepted, with the goal of completely filling a Saskatoon Transit bus with food bank donations.

“Stuff the Bus is one of the many ways people can get involved and make a real difference,” Laurie O’Connor, the food bank’s executive director, said in a statement.
Businesses, community groups and individuals were all encouraged to get involved in the food drive by signing up for a food barrel to collect donations.
“With the rising cost of living, we all need to play a role in making sure everyone has food on the table, and the generosity this community shows every year is truly remarkable,” O’Connor said.
“We’re encouraging the public to register for a food barrel, donate on our website, or stop by Saskatoon Co-op Food Store on 8th Street on April 16th. Let’s stuff the bus together!”
The food bank said it needs donations of baby food and formula, along with canned fruits and veggies, soups and stews, whole-grain pasta and cereals, canned protein item and peanut butter.
But while food donations are gratefully accepted, the food bank noted that cash donations allow the organization to leverage its purchasing power to make the money go further and keep much-needed items in stock.
The annual event started in 2005 when Eroca Pellerin, a Saskatoon Transit operator, decided to do something to help those in need. She approached Saskatoon Transit with the idea and Stuff the Bus was born. Since then, the annual event has brought in more than 533,111 pounds of food donations and raised more than $685,682 to help fight hunger in the community. Last year’s event saw 16,111 pounds of food and $148,000 donated to the food bank.
Rock 102 is the sister station to 650 CKOM.
