A waterslide at a Saskatoon civic centre has been closed for public safety reasons.
According to the City of Saskatoon’s website, the waterslide at the Lakewood Civic Centre is closed until further notice.
The closure took effect on Tues, March 10.
The slide was initially scheduled to be replaced next year. The city said that was based on the anticipated lifespan of the slide and its previous maintenance. A recent engineering inspection, however, has led to the slide being taken out of service before any possible safety risk to people using it.
“We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all facility users,” the city website notice said.
The plan for a full replacement of the slide is continuing for 2027.
“Installation and construction of a new slide will be carefully scheduled to minimize impacts on aquatic programming and pool access,” the city notice said, adding that updates will be shared as the project progresses
The city said all other pool amenities and programs at Lakewood Civic Centre will remain open and operating as usual.
