A 30-year-old man is dead following a reported shooting in a motel parking lot in North Battleford Friday morning.
In a news release, RCMP said officers were called at 7:45 a.m. about an injured man outside a business. The victim was declared dead by paramedics at the scene.
RCMP said the death is being treated as a homicide investigation, but have not confirmed whether a firearm was involved.
Haris Korath of Crown Cab told battlefordsNOW one of his drivers was shot after being dispatched around 7:30 a.m. for a pickup at a motel.
“Something happened there with the driver, and he got shot three times, and he passed away,” said Korath.
In a social media post, Crown Cab described the employee as “a dedicated member of our team and a hardworking driver who served our community every day.”
The company said it would shut down service for the rest of the day out of respect for the employee and his family.
RCMP said residents will notice an increased police presence Friday evening around Hitching Post Motel and the Highway 16 Bypass.
