Days after the Highway 11 overpass in Saskatoon was hit by a semi truck, city inspectors were called to a second incident Wednesday afternoon.

The city said an over-height load clipped the 108th Street overpass around 5 p.m.

“City of Saskatoon staff and structural engineers went immediately to the scene following the collision. Structural engineers have completed an assessment and confirmed the overpass is safe for use,” the city said in a release.

650 CKOM’s Lara Fominoff said a flat bed semi truck carrying an orange front loader was parked several hundred feet from the overpass in the north bound lanes of Circle Drive. Rocks and cement could be seen scattered on the road below the overpass.

Traffic along Circle Drive north was reduced to just one lane, near College Drive. The 108th Street overpass was closed by Saskatoon police in both directions to all vehicle traffic.

The city said Circle Drive northbound curb lane will remain closed while debris from the impact is cleared.

Saskatoon Police blocked all vehicle traffic on the 108th Street overpass after another truck carrying heavy machinery hit it Wednesday afternoon.

In reponse to CKOM posts on “X,” the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce posted, “The Chamber would support further amendments to Bylaw No. 7200, The Traffic Bylaw, with tougher penalties and stiffer fines, to protect #yxe ratepayers, drivers and transportation infrastructure.”

The Chamber also noted that in the last five years, there have been more than two dozen bridge impacts and emergency inspections due to “unauthorized, over- dimensional vehicles.”

“We welcome any company that wants to do business in (or through) Saskatoon. Just have to play by the rules.”

On March 6, City of Saskatoon director of technical services, Dan Willems, spoke candidly about their frustration with the driver involved in the incident on March 4.

“Signage apparently didn’t help this blockhead realize he was going to cause significant damage and he didn’t have a permit,” Willems told reporters at City Hall in Saskatoon on March 6.

As of publication, no information on when both lanes would re- open to traffic on Circle Drive at 108th Street was available.
