The police force said it did not have any description or details about the potentially deadly drink to share with the public, but the RCMP noted that it may be connected to several deaths in the region.
“The detachment is investigating multiple sudden deaths that have been reported in the area in the past week; however, we caution that RCMP, in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, are in the preliminary stages of determining whether or not the sudden deaths are related to this report,” the RCMP said in a statement.
Police cautioned people in the area to avoid drinking anything they aren’t sure about.
“Given the potential safety risk involved, we are notifying the public in the Battlefords Detachment area to exercise caution and not consume any unknown liquid beverages/substances,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“The RCMP does not have further information to release as officers are in the very preliminary stages of investigating the report.”
The Mounties encouraged anyone with information that could help the investigation to contact police or Crime Stoppers, and noted that anyone who experiences or witnesses a medical emergency should call 9-1-1 immediately.
