What might have been a routine traffic stop in the Wynyard area ended with Mounties seizing more than nine kilograms of illegal drugs.
According to police, officers conducting traffic patrols stopped a vehicle for a breach of Saskatchewan’s vehicle equipment regulations on Highway 16 at around 10:45 a.m. on Friday.

“Through further police investigation, Saskatoon RCMP Traffic Services located a bag containing 4.907 kilograms of methamphetamine and 4.219 kilograms of fentanyl in the vehicle,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“Police officers arrested the two occupants of the vehicle on scene and seized the illegal drugs.”
The RCMP said the two people in the vehicle – both residents of Edmonton – have each been charged with two counts of possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and are expected to appear in court in Yorkton on Thursday.
