The correctional service said it has contacted the Prince Albert police and RCMP, and a warrant has been issued for Custer’s arrest.
He was described as 5’10” in height, weighing 181 pounds, with a medium complexion, black hair and brown eyes.
“Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of Keiston Custer is asked to contact the police,” the correctional service noted.
“CSC will investigate the circumstances of this incident and is working with the police to locate the offender as quickly as possible.”
Custer, who is originally from Sturgeon lake First Nation, received a 12-year prison sentence for manslaughter in January of 2023.
He was charged in connection to the death of Norman Charles Custer, who was shot in the back in May of 2021 in the 900 block of 17th Street West in Prince Albert. Custer was initially charged with second degree murder, but entered a guilty plea to the lesser offence.
Custer was also one of five men charged after a prison riot in January of 2021 at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre, which resulted in roughly $500,000 in damages.
