A rural area in southern Saskatchewan was left in the dark for two hours near the end of January thanks to a thief with shocking aspirations.
According to RCMP, around 9:30 a.m. in the Kayville area on Jan. 27, a call came in about a power pole that had been stolen.

In a Feb. 23 news release, Mounties said someone went onto an abandoned rural farm property, cut down a live SaskPower power pole and removed it. Police said they believe it was dragged through the yard into a field, and then possibly loaded into a truck and taken from the area.
There was a power outage in the area for about two hours that day while SaskPower worked on the situation.
Because the power pole was live with electricity, RCMP said someone could have been seriously hurt or even killed.
“Additionally, with winter conditions on that day, an action like this puts residents living in the area, and work crews, at risk,” said Cst. Gary Christopher from the Coronach RCMP in the release.
Police still haven’t found the power pole or the thieves.
Anyone with information is asked to call Saskatchewan RCMP at 310-RCMP, their local police service or to inform Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or at saskcrimestoppers.com.
