“Upon arrival, officers observed a man beneath a vehicle; as officers approached his location in their vehicle, the man retreated to a truck and proceeded to ram the police vehicle in an attempt to flee before getting stuck in a snow bank,” the police force said in a statement.
“Officers then exited their vehicle and proceeded with removing two occupants from the truck; during which, a police service dog was deployed.”
Police implied the driver was attacked and injured by the police dog while the truck was immobilized, saying he was “treated for injuries consistent with a dog bite.”
A 40-year-old man is now facing charges of possession of a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, mischief under $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, attempted theft under $5,000, assaulting a police officer with a weapon and breaching court-ordered conditions. A 45-year-old man was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest.
Five arrested after officers find sawed-off firearms
Five people were arrested early on Wednesday morning after an officer allegedly saw a group of men “discard an object into a snow bank upon seeing police” on Avenue T South.
“Officers approached the group and found the discarded object to be a sawed-off firearm,” the police force said.
“Upon further investigation, two other men were found to be in possession of sawed-off firearms and another was in possession of bear spray.”
Police said a fifth member of the group, a 19-year-old man, was unarmed, but was found to be suffering from stab wounds “believed to have been inflicted during an incident earlier in the night,” and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Four men, ages 18, 20, 20 and 32, are facing “a variety of weapons-related offences,” police said, while the teen was also found to be breaching court-ordered conditions.
The 19-year-old man suffering stab wounds was not charged, but police said officers are investigating further.
