Scott Thomas, father of Evan Thomas, who died in the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash, says the series, now in production, is all too familiar to the tragedy he lives with every day. He joins the show to share his thoughts on the series.
LQ: What do you think about a Netflix show that seems inspired by the Humboldt Broncos tragedy—is that fair to do?
11:00 – A new wave of lawsuits in the States argue social media companies aren’t just hosting harmful content, but intentionally designing addictive products that cause real mental health injuries to children. If successful, the cases could become social media’s “Big Tobacco” moment, forcing major changes to platform design and business models. LQ: Do you think social media is addictive or are these people overreacting? Should kids be allowed to be on social media?
11:30 – Many seniors have to work for survival and beyond that many want to work for mental health and sense of purpose but hundreds of thousands of seniors who work are financially punished because the Guaranteed Income Supplement is clawed back so aggressively that they can lose a large share of every dollar they earn. To talk about this and what can be done Evan is joined by Jason Dean, associate researcher at the MEI (Montreal Economic Institute) joins the show to share his findings on this topic.
