Thirteen SaskEnergy employees fired due to ‘internal fuel theft’: Report

Thirteen SaskEnergy employees were terminated after an investigation into fuel thefts.

According to a loss report tabled on Monday by Crown Investments Corporation, the thefts were centred primarily in the company’s construction department and the full amount that was stolen is yet to be determined.

“Thirteen individuals were identified as part of SaskEnergy’s initial investigation, and their employment was terminated by way of an indefinite suspension,” the report read.

“The matter has been reported to police, and the company has also hired an independent investigator.”

According to the report, the Crown corporation’s internal audit department is conducting a review, and the company has also informed its external auditor about the lost funds.

“A comprehensive report detailing the loss is targeted for completion in February 2026. SaskEnergy intends to recover the value of the fuel taken,” the report noted.

Sask. Housing Corporation, SaskBuilds and Procurement also report losses

Additional losses were reported on Monday by the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation and the Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement.

According to the reports, a Lloydminster Housing Authority manager was terminated with cause due to “suspected personal use of company assets and fuel purchases and inappropriate expense claims,” adding up to more than $10,000 in a preliminary estimate.

In addition, the Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement reported that an employee was terminated after a government-issued purchase card was used for non-government purposes, adding up to a loss of $575.38.

“The ministry is pursuing recovery of the loss,” the report noted.
