8:30 – Yesterday the Government of Saskatchewan announced they have launched an independent, third‑party review of hospital safety and security. Immediate measures, such as installing metal detectors at emergency department entrances and seeking enhanced security services in smaller communities, are already underway while the review will guide longer‑term system-wide changes. To discuss safety in hospitals Evan is joined by Hon. Jeremy Cockrill, Saskatchewan Health Minister.
Listener Question: This past week we’ve heard about metal detectors, a tip line, and an independent review – is this government doing enough to keep healthcare workers safe?
9:00 – We continue our conversation about hospital safety. On Wednesday, the NDP highlighted the government’s plan for an anonymous reporting line for healthcare workers, raising concerns that unsafe conditions and staffing shortages aren’t being properly addressed. Yesterday, they shared images of firearms, knives, and other weapons seized at Royal University Hospital. With so much happening around hospital safety in Saskatchewan, we’re joined by Meara Conway, NDP MLA for Regina Elphinstone‑Centre and the Official Opposition’s Health Critic, to get her perspective.
LQ: Are Saskatchewan’s hospitals safe? Will a “snitch line” make them safer?

11:00 – What time is it? It’s Eatin’ Time! with Belton Johnson – powered by the Saskatchewan Cattle Association! Grillmaster Belton Johnson joins Evan with his recipe for Beef Barley Soup.
11:15 – A Saskatoon researcher is working on a new project to try and build winter-resistant roadways. Dr. Haithem Soliman, associate professor of civil, geological and environmental engineering at the University of Saskatchewan (USask), is partnering with the City of Saskatoon to look for ways to build roads that cold temperatures will have less of an impact on. He joins Evan to discuss what his research will look like.
11:30 – Prime Minister Mark Carney’s recent trade deal with China reflects a shift in Canada’s foreign policy as global power dynamics change and Ottawa looks to diversify trade beyond the United States. But in this so-called “new world order,” should Canada still be wary of longstanding concerns around human rights, security, and foreign influence when dealing with Beijing? Evan is joined by international affairs commentator and author of Claws of the Panda: Beijing’s Campaign of Influence and Intimidation in Canada, Jonathan Manthorpe.
LQ: Given their history, how comfortable are you with Canada doing more business with China?
12:00 – Evan revisits his conversation with Jeremy Cockrill, Saskatchewan Health Minister, on the safety of our Saskatchewan hospitals.
