More seating is coming to Saskatoon Berries games at Cairns Field this spring.
The team said a new section right behind home plate will include 352 new seats, giving fans a front-row seat to all the action on the field. Current season ticket holders will have the first chance to upgrade to one of the new seats, while sales for the general public open on Feb. 3.

“The Gordie Howe Sports Complex and it’s collaborative sporting partners are excited with the support from Sask Entertainment Group to increase the seating capacities at Cairns Field,” Bryan Kosteroski, chair for the sports complex, said in a statement.
“The increased seating along with the new sections behind the home plate just expands the big-league atmosphere it will bring to the Saskatoon Berries at Cairns Field.”
Construction on the new section is set to begin early this spring, with the new seats expected to be ready for opening day on Saturday, May 30.
“Berries fans have shown up and proven their support for baseball in Saskatoon, and we simply don’t have enough space for everyone to come out and enjoy the entertainment,” said Steve Hildebrand, the team’s president.
“This project will not only allow more fans to get into the ballpark, but this also provides a comfortable, premium seating space to enjoy the games.”

In a social media post, Tyler Wawryk, the team’s vice-president of business operations, noted that the new sections will feature stadium seats rather than bleachers.
The current bleachers don’t have the capacity to add seating onto them but our new sections will have stadium seats. Our goal, eventually, is to have a seat for everyone in attendance.

In addition to the regular-season games, the Berries are set to host the first-ever WCBL All-Star Weekend on July 18 and 19, which will include events like a home run derby, bunt contest, live music and more. The team said full details will be announced at a later date.
