Police are investigating the death of a 73-year-old man involved in a “serious collision” involving a propane truck and a semi near Fort Qu’Appelle Wednesday evening, according to a statement.
RCMP received the report of the collision around 6:50 p.m.
The RCMP said they anticipate the highway will likely remain closed “until later today” on Thursday.

“A pick-up truck then left the roadway and entered the ditch to avoid a secondary collision,” said the Mounties in a statement.
Paramedics declared the driver of the propane truck as deceased. The driver was identified as a 73-year-old man from Fort Qu’Appelle. His family has been notified, said the police force.
“The drivers of the other vehicles did not report injuries to police. None of the vehicles had passengers,” said the RCMP.
Police determined the propane tanker was leaking.
The RCMP set a safety perimeter around the site to safely remove the propane from the area, noted police in a statement.
Once that is complete, police said a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist will continue investigation.
“Propane was spilled as a result of this collision and crews continue their work to clean up the area. The highway is closed to traffic and detours are in place,” the Saskatchewan RCMP said in a statement.
“Traffic is being re-routed in the area and motorists should expect a delay. We do not have an estimated time the highway will re-open, but encourage motorists to consult the Highway Hotline for road closure updates,” said the RCMP.
Police also cautioned drivers to slow down and use caution with anticipated high winds and potential snow this afternoon.
