A 72-year-old man has been charged with five counts of theft over $5,000 and five counts of fraud over $5,000 in connection to account discrepancies reported by five Saskatoon businesses totalling more than $250,000.
The arrest prompted a warning from Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) that people should verify the credentials of any person or business, search the business name online, and review any available ratings or complaints, including searching the Better Business Bureau.

Police said a forensic audit revealed that the man charged misappropriated payroll remittances to the CRA for more than $250,000.
The man appeared in court in Saskatoon on Jan. 13.
Man charged with impaired driving after early-morning call
A 20-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and evading police after a person reported him passed out in his vehicle sitting in the intersection of 8th Street East and Broadway Avenue on Saturday.
SPS said in a Jan. 13 news release that officers received a call before 5 a.m. on Jan. 10 and found the man unconscious stopped in a driving lane. Officers were attempting to wake the man by knocking on the glass when the vehicle began rolling forward, ultimately coming to a stop against a snow bank a short distance away.

Man facing weapons, drugs charges after car chase
A 23-year-old man is facing a number of charges after he sped away from a traffic stop in the city on Sunday.
SPS said in a Jan. 13 news release that around 1 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2026, officers tried to stop the vehicle the man was driving near Idylwyld Drive North and 39th Street but when it took off at high speed officers immediately disengaged.
Police said the vehicle was seen continuing north on Highway 12 out of Saskatoon and later seen entering the city on Highway 16.
Police said they determined the driver was unlawfully at large and a tire deflation device was successfully deployed at Beam Road.
The vehicle continued into an industrial area, SPS said, where a police vehicle was used to “make contact” with the man’s vehicle in the 1900 block of 1st Avenue North. Police said the man then ran away but was arrested a short distance away and found to have bear spray, a knife, and suspected crystal methamphetamine on him.
In additional to being unlawfully at large, the man has also been charged with several weapons-related offences, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, operating a vehicle in a dangerous manner, and evading police.
