Road crews and contractors in Saskatoon have begun the process of removing snow from high-priority routes around the Bridge City.
The city said the work, which is typically done overnight in order to avoid disrupting traffic more than necessary, helps restore the full width of driving lanes and improve visibility at intersections.

“Snow removal is different from snow clearing, which includes regular plowing and grading,” the City of Saskatoon explained in a statement.
“During snow removal, accumulated and windrowed snow is physically removed and hauled to one of three City-operated snow storage facilities.”
The city said snow removal on priority streets is done when on-street capacity for snow storage is reached, in order to free up space for future snowfalls.
The work is expected to take about eight weeks, though the city noted that weather could interfere.
“If another snow event occurs during snow removal operations, crews will temporarily return to regular plowing and grading activities to maintain safety and mobility. Once priority routes are again passable, crews will resume snow removal work,” the city noted.
“Residents are reminded to watch for blue and amber flashing lights and to give road maintenance equipment the space needed to operate safely, particularly during periods of reduced visibility.”
