Teen boy arrested after hit-and-runs in stolen vehicle: Police
A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Saturday morning after allegedly fleeing from police and causing crashes in a stolen vehicle.
Police said officers were alerted about a vehicle that was stolen from the 400 block of Labine Crescent, in the city’s Kensington neighbourhood, just after 8 a.m.
“As officers were responding, police received several reports of hit and runs involving a vehicle with a similar description to the one that was recently stolen,” the police force said in a statement.
Police said officers caught up with the vehicle on 22nd Street West, but the driver allegedly took off at high speed and the officers did not give chase.
“Officers immediately disengaged from the evade police incident,” police said.
“A short time later, the vehicle was located by members of the Corman Park Police Service in a restaurant parking lot near 39th Street West and Idylwyld Drive North. Further investigation found the driver to be inside the restaurant; he was arrested without further incident.”
Police said the 17-year-old boy who was allegedly behind the wheel has been charged with dangerous driving, two counts of hit and run, theft of a motor vehicle and obstruction of justice.
