Two people are facing lengthy lists of criminal charges after Mounties allegedly found several guns, suspected drugs, cash and a baton in hidden compartments in an SUV on Saturday.
According to police, officers stopped a black Cadillac Escalade SUV near the Poundmaker First Nation, northwest of the Battlefords. A passenger, a 27-year-old woman from the Sweetgrass First Nation, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for assault with a weapon and failing to appear in court, police said.

The driver, a 40-year-old man from Cut Knife, was also arrested when officers allegedly spotted unstampted tobacco products inside the SUV. Police said he was found to be wearing body armour and carrying “a large hunting knife” when he was arrested.
“A search of the vehicle was conducted. A loaded, sawed-off shotgun was located and both people were re-arrested for possession of a loaded, prohibited firearm,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“Another loaded gun was located under blankets in the vehicle back seat. A hidden compartment was located in the vehicle underneath two aggressive dogs. Once the dogs were removed from the vehicle, police located and seized four additional firearms from the hidden compartment.”
Police said officers found a second hidden compartment on the vehicle, which contained a baton, cash and “quantifies of suspected drugs.”
Both the man and woman are facing lengthy lists of charges, including several counts of unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm without being the licence holder, occupying a motor vehicle knowing there is a prohibited firearm inside and possession of unstampted tobacco.
They’re expected to appear in court in North Battleford on Monday, the RCMP said.
“A total of six guns were seized from the vehicle, including four that were loaded with ammunition in the chamber,” a spokesperson with the Saskatchewan RCMP’s crime reduction team said in a statement.
“Two firearms had serial numbers altered or removed and three firearms were cut down to a prohibited length. Take a moment to think that this vehicle had been traveling with all the other motorists on Saskatchewan roads – our team is grateful we were able to remove these guns from our communities and streets.”
