Saskatchewan RCMP are confirming a two-vehicle crash just outside of Melfort that claimed three lives – two men from James Smith Cree Nation (JSCN) and another man from Kinistino.
Emergency crews were called to the scene along Highway 3 at around 6:15 p.m. Thursday, where a truck and an SUV collided approximately two kilometres west of the city. The men from JSCN were 31 and 24 years old, and the man from Kinistino was 59.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, and a passenger in the truck passed away in hospital.
The names of the deceased were not released by the RCMP, but family members who spoke to paNOW confirmed the men from JSCN to be Seth and Rene Constant, members of the well-known band Constant Reminder.
According to a statement released by JSCN Chief Kirby Constant, the community is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of two community members.
“These talented young men carried our Nation’s spirit with pride through their music, inspiring many across our lands and beyond. Their songs celebrated resilience, family, and identity, values that are deeply rooted in who we are as Cree people. Their loss is felt not only by their families but by all who knew them, heard them perform, and were moved by the gift of their music.”
On behalf of Chief and Council and the entire James Smith Cree Nation, Constant said they extend heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and fans of these gifted artists.
“We share in your grief and offer our prayers for strength and healing during this difficult time,” he said. “Their legacy will live on through their music and the memories they created for all of us.”
The third annual Saskatchewan Indigenous Music Awards are scheduled to take place Saturday night at Prince Albert’s EA Rawlinson Centre.
In a statement forwarded to paNOW, the Saskatchewan Indigenous Music Association extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Constant Reminder.
“Their music and spirit deeply impacted our communities and will continue to inspire future generations.”
Melfort RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
The name of the man from Kinistino has not been released.
